Few days ago I've shared with you as "behind the shot" story one picture of beautifully colored pink and turquoise sky (you can
find it HERE). I received couple of comments and messages then and one of them mentioned what exactly THIS sky is and I've found it very interesting. It is not so well known atmospheric phenomenon called the
Belt of Venus or
Venus's Girdle. More from Wikipedia:
It can be seen at sunrise and sunset - shortly after sunset or shortly before sunrise, the observer is, or is very nearly, surrounded by a pinkish glow (or anti-twilight arch) that extends roughly 10°–20° above the horizon. Often, the glow is separated from the horizon by a dark layer, the Earth's shadow or "dark segment." The arch's light pink color is due to back-scattering of reddened light from the rising or setting Sun. A very similar effect can be seen during a total solar eclipse.
And - surprisingly - the name is not associated with the planet Venus but the goddess, instead, as a mythological reference - "the goddess Aphrodite/Venus is well known for her Magic Girdle or embroidered belt,
made of gold filigree crafted lovingly by her husband, the smith god
Hephaestus/Vulcan. When she wore it, she was irresistible! Other
goddesses sometimes borrowed this girdle when they wanted to turn on
their love light."
And why is this phenomenon so little known? Because people go out to watch sunrise or sunset all the time but they rarely think to turn away from the spectacular view in front of them and see what is happening on the OPPOSITE side of the sky.

Pred pár dňami som pre vás uverejnila jeden záber s nádherne zafarbenou ružovou a tyrkysovou oblohou (
nájdete ho TU). Dostala som k nemu potom niekoľko komentárov a správ a jedna z nich mi objasnila, o čo sa vlastne jedná a mňa to strašne zaujalo. Je to málo známy atmosférický fenomén, ktorý sa nazýva
Venušin pás a tu je o ňom niečo viac podľa Wikipedie:
Môžete ho pozorovať krátko po západe slnka alebo krátko pred východom slnka, jedná sa o naružovelý oblúk, ktorý sa rozprestiera zhruba 10°–20° nad horizontom. Veľmi často je od horizontu oddelený tmavšou vrstvou, čo je vlastne tieň Zeme. Ružový pás vzniká ako odraz načervenalého svetla z vychádzajúceho alebo zapadajúceho slnka. Veľmi podobný efekt môže byť spozorovaný počas totálneho zatmenia slnka.
A - prekvapivo - názov tohoto fenoménu nie je spojený s planétou Venuša, ale s bohyňou rovnakého mena z mytológie - "bohyňa Afrodita/Venuša je známa tým, že nosila magický zlatý zdobený pás, ktorý jej vyrobil jej milujúci manžel Héfaistos/Vulkán, boh ohňa a kováčskeho remesla. (Mimochodom, bol najškaredší zo všetkých bohov a ako vidieť, za manželku mal bohyňu lásky a krásy :-)) Keď ho mala na sebe, bola neodolateľná! Ostatné bohyne si ho dokonca od nej preto niekedy požičiavali.
A prečo je tento fenomén tak málo známy? Nuž, jednoducho preto, že ľudia veľmi často pozerajú na západ alebo východ slnka, ale málokto sa otočí, aby sa pozrel, čo sa práve vtedy deje na OPAČNEJ strane oblohy.
Vychutnajte si preto ešte raz túto farbu na ďalšom zábere z toho večera, znásobenú odrazom v mori ... a občas, keď pozorujete západ slnka ...otočte sa aj za seba ;-)
